Pre-forum exchange program

Following VdGM tradition, the 4th Forum will present you the opportunity to participate in an exchange program. Twenty-five residents and establishing family physicians will have the chance to discover the life of French resident/family physician. GP hosts from all over Strasbourg’s region were selected to welcome you. Some participants will be accommodated by their GP hosts, others by fellow French trainees.

The exchange will last for 2 days (April 18-19, 2017). Please note that participants are expected to arrive on April 17th (be careful: Easter is a day off!), so as to be at the host practice in the morning of April 18th. Participants will be hosted in a great variety of primary care practices: in urban and rural settings, single or group practices, close or further away from Strasbourg’s city center…

The French health system in Primary Care is historically based on single private practices. Primary health care is mostly based on General Practice. They are organized nowadays in single or group practices, with one or many other physicians. All French citizens have a direct access to their family doctors – they sign a contract to be on their list. Patient pay for every consultation except if they have governamental help, after presenting their “carte vitale”. All health costs are covered by the French NHS called «Assurance Maladie" and private insurances called “mutuelles”. GPs treat all sorts of people and conditions: from the new-born to the elderly. GPs also interact with social workers and other health professionals, and so much more…

During the exchange, an optional social program will be planned with your hosts and GP.
