Call for applications: VdGM Executive

NOTICE: This post has been updated following the adoption of temporary amendments to the VdGM elections policy in order to facilitate elections to the Executive during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.

 

The Vasco da Gama Movement invites its Members to join the VdGM Executive Group. There will be a number of vacant positions:

  • President Elect (after serving as the President Elect for one year – 2020/2021, (s)he will become President for two years – 2021/2023 and then Immediate Past President for another year – 2023/2024)
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Awards & Fundraising Officer
  • Events Officer
  • Exchange Officer
  • Image Officer

 

Current President, Secretary, Treasurer, Awards & Fundraising Officer, Events Officer, Exchange Officer and Image Officer will not apply for their positions for one more term.

 

The standard Term of Office will be 2020-2023 (2020-2024 for the presidential roles).

 

According to the VdGM Elections Organisational Policy:

  • The required documents from the applicants for election are as follows: 
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Motivational Letter
    • Proof of membership of their National Member Organisation 
    • Proof of young doctor status
    • An essential letter of recommendation from their National Delegate if the candidate is not themselves a National Delegate, or from their National Exchange Coordinator. if the candidate is a National Delegate themselves and their country has a National Exchange Coordinator. 
    • Up to three desirable letters of recommendation:​
      • One from their National Member Organisation 
      • A maximum of two letters from other VdGM members
  • The documents must be sent to the Secretary (secretary@vdgm.eu) by Friday, 14th August 2020 (Previously read: ​"Sunday, 24th May 2020").
    • Documents submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
    • In case of insufficient documents, the candidate will be ineligible to stand for election.
  • Members of the VdGM Executive Group, except for the President, are allowed to offer letters of recommendation to formally support candidates.

 

Elections will take place at an Extraordinary Council Meeting to be held online on Sunday, 13th September 2020. The candidate must be present during the online meeting where the election takes place in order to be eligible. Candidates will have two options for giving their presentation to Council: (1) Give their presentation live and in real time during the online council meeting; (2) Pre-record their presentation and stream it during the online council meeting. Candidates will have the opportunity to present themselves with a 15-minute presentation (20 minutes for President Elect role candidates).

Voting will take place during the Extraordinary Council Meeting using an online voting platform that can facilitate anonymous voting by the National Delegates. This will be managed by two independent observers from within VdGM as in the existing elections policy.​
